About Budgetsplit

Budgetsplit is a website and a mobile app that helps you and the people you choose keep track of shared money: income, expenses, budgets and who owes whom. It is run by [your full legal name], trading as First Byte Labs ("we", "us"), [postal address where you can be served]. You can reach us at firstbytelabs@gmail.com.

Budgetsplit records what you enter. It does not hold or move money, it is not a bank or a payment service, and it does not give financial, tax or legal advice.

Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account or using Budgetsplit you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Budgetsplit.

We may update these terms. We will tell you in advance, in the app or by email, about any change that matters. If you keep using Budgetsplit after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not accept a change, you can delete your account.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older. We ask you to confirm this when you sign up.

You need an account to use Budgetsplit. Give us accurate information, keep your sign-in details private, and do not share your account with anyone else. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password and tell us straight away.

Your private space and your groups

Every account has one private space that only you can see. Nobody else, including the owner of any group you are in, can open it.

You can also create family or friends groups, and join a group with an invite code. Everything added to a group is visible to every member of that group: amounts, dates, categories, notes, who paid, who shares an expense, payments between members, and each member's name. Only add what you are happy for them to see.

The person who creates a group is its owner. Owners can change the group's settings, add categories and budgets, create a new invite code, and remove other members. Anyone who has a valid invite code can join until it expires or the owner creates a new one, so only share it with people you trust. Members can leave a group at any time. An owner cannot leave a group they own; to step away, delete your account (see "Ending your account").

What you enter

You keep the rights in the information you add. You are responsible for it. Do not enter anything unlawful, and do not enter other people's private information unless you have the right to.

You give us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide permission to store, process and show what you enter to you and to the members of your groups, and only so that we can run Budgetsplit for you. We do not use it for anything else.

Balances and totals

Budgetsplit works out totals, budgets and balances from what people enter. We do not check entries against any bank account, and we cannot know whether an entry is right. Look over the figures before you rely on them, for example before you settle up with someone.

A payment recorded in Budgetsplit is only a note that a payment happened. Budgetsplit does not make or check payments. What people owe each other in real life is a matter between them.

Using Budgetsplit fairly

You agree not to:

• break the law, or use Budgetsplit to harass or deceive anyone; • try to read, change or delete data that is not yours, or get around any limit or security measure (including guessing invite codes); • probe, scan or test Budgetsplit for weaknesses without our written permission (if you find a security problem, please tell us at firstbytelabs@gmail.com); • overload or interfere with the service, or use bots or scripts to create accounts or collect data; • copy, sell or take apart Budgetsplit, except where the law allows it.

Other services

If you sign in with Google, Google's own terms and privacy policy apply to that sign-in. Downloading the app from an app store is also covered by that store's terms. We are not responsible for those services.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Budgetsplit running and safe, but it is a new service and we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features, and we will try to give notice of anything significant.

Please download a copy of your data from time to time (Settings, Download my data). It is yours, and it is the best protection against something going wrong.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. For your security you must have signed in recently. Deleting is permanent. What happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy and on the account deletion page.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people or the service at risk. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why first and give you the chance to download your data.

Our rights

Budgetsplit, its name, logo, design and software belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to use Budgetsplit as these terms allow. That is all we give you. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

No promises beyond the law

As far as the law allows, Budgetsplit is provided "as it is". We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it suits a particular purpose. We are not responsible for decisions you make using it.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the law gives you as a consumer.

Limits on our responsibility

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes responsibility that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for intentional or grossly negligent harm.

We are fully responsible for harm caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Product Liability Act, and where we have given a guarantee.

If we breach an essential contractual obligation through slight negligence (an obligation that makes it possible to run Budgetsplit properly in the first place, and that you can normally rely on), our responsibility is limited to the damage that is typically foreseeable for a service like this. Otherwise we are not responsible for slightly negligent breaches. Please download a copy of your data from time to time, as it is the best protection against loss.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Germany. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country. Otherwise the courts of Germany decide disputes about these terms.
